Most of us welcome spring's warmer weather and budding greenery, but seasonal allergies can put a real damper on this time of year.
If you're one of the many who suffer the sneezing, congestion and teary eyes of allergies, I suggest that you try TriVita Sublingual B-12 and Nopalea together.
The way these two unique products work together is a bit complex, but what it comes down to is this: Sublingual B12 helps slow the formation of histamines, which trigger most of the allergy misery, and Nopalea helps reduce the inflammation that histamines can produce throughout the body. Here's a more detailed look:
Histamines and inflammation
Histamines are chemicals released by cells in our immune system. Histamines are not "bad" chemicals; they're just "misunderstood," as my colleague Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science
Officer, puts it. We sometimes need histamines to protect us from poisons.
When we have hay fever, a common term for seasonal allergies, our body misidentifies a harmless pollen grain as a toxic poison. Histamines actually flood the area to remove the pollen. The result is watery, inflamed eyes, nose, throat and lungs.
Histamines don't affect just our airways, however. There are three other sites affected by the production of histamines and the inflammation they can trigger: the digestive/reproductive tract, our brain and our immune system. When inflammation strikes the digestive/ reproductive tract, the result can be acid indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammation of the reproductive tract. In the brain, histamine-triggered inflammation can cause insomnia, hyperactivity and mental decline. The immune system under inflammation can respond with chronic fatigue and aches and pains.
No matter where in the body histamines are produced, they are strongly affected by our levels of Vitamin B-12 and folate. When B-12 levels go down, histamines rise, helping to trigger inflammation. How the body responds to this depends on genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle choices. That's why some people respond to low levels of B-12 with allergy symptoms, while others may experience problems with the gut, with mental function, or with overall aches and pains.
Restoring balance, reducing inflammation
To bring balance back into the system we need Vitamin B12. As you may know, starting in young adulthood, many people have B-12 deficiencies. It becomes more difficult to get the B-12 we need from nutrition as time goes on, and this is a key reason to take a quality Vitamin B12 supplement.
But even when you have sufficient Vitamin B-12 to keep those histamines under control, it's also necessary to control the inflammation that histamines can trigger. That's why, since Nopalea was first introduced, I've recommended it as a companion wellness product with TriVita Sublingual B-12. The rare, natural antioxidants in Nopalea called "Betalains" are found in only a few of the world's plants, including the Nopal cactus. The Nopal fruit, from which Nopalea is made, contains one of the highest amounts of Betalains found anywhere in nature.
That's why this remarkable, anti-inflammatory wellness drink has helped so many get relief from the effects of chronic inflammation -- including allergy-related breathing problems and chronic pain.
As a doctor, I know the importance of maintaining appropriate levels of Vitamin B-12, and of controlling the inflammation that causes so many ills. That's why I applaud those who supplement their healthy diets with TriVita Sublingual B-12 products and encourage them to add Nopalea to their daily regimens, too.
